Urine test sticks, Glucose
Urine test stix, Glucose are test strips for measuring glucose concentration in liquids. The strips are primarily developed for urine tests, but they can also be used as an indicator of glucose content in other liquids, e.g. juice, milk or solutions used in experiments.
Description
The strip is dipped briefly into the liquid, after which the color change is compared with the color scale on the container. The measurement scale indicates results in both mg/dL and mmol/L.
Each pack contains 50 test strips. The test strips should be stored dry and closed carefully after use to maintain their accuracy. Color scale on the packaging:
- mg/dL: 0 (negative), 20 (normal), 50, 150, 500, >1000
- mmol/L: 0 (negative), 1.1 (normal), 2.8, 8.3, 27.8, 55.5
Use of the product
In biology, chemistry and science/engineering, urine test sticks provide an opportunity to work experimentally with carbohydrates and digestion. They can be used in studies of glucose excretion in urine, but also in experiments with filtration, digestive enzymes (e.g. amylase) or fermentation, where students test whether glucose is formed or broken down in a liquid. This provides concrete experience with how chemical reactions can be measured and observed.
The test strips are also used in the healthcare sector and in SOSU training courses, where they can be included in training for routine urine tests, as part of assessing patients’ blood sugar balance, or as a screening for glucosuria.
