Rock collection, rocks/minerals
This rock collection contains four central rock types – sandstone, limestone, granite and gneiss – and four minerals that are part of them: quartz, calcite, feldspar and mica.
Description
The collection is delivered in a practical box, where the samples can be removed, examined and compared. The rocks are of a size that makes them suitable for handling and closer observation. A guide in Norwegian is included, which provides additional background knowledge.
Use of the product
The rock collection is ideal for use in geography, nature/technology and geology classes, where students can get their hands on materials that might otherwise be difficult to obtain in class. It provides an opportunity to work with concepts such as the rock cycle, the properties of minerals and the difference between igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Students can, for example, examine hardness, colour, structure and lustre, thereby linking theoretical knowledge to concrete observations.
The stone collection can also be a useful educational tool in museums and visitor centers, where work is done to communicate the structure of the earth and its raw materials.
