Polarimeter
Introduce students to the principles of polarised light, optical activity and polarimetry with this updated student Polarimeter. Ideal for supporting practical investigations at Physics and Chemistry A-level, the simplified design enables students to measure the optical rotation of optically active compounds in solution – e.g. sugar (sucrose) – while developing an understanding of polarisation and the interaction of light with matter.
A monochromatic yellow LED light source provides clear, consistent illumination, while the 10 cm specimen tube accommodates the solution under test. The graduated analyser rotates smoothly to locate the extinction point and allows students to measure the angle of rotation with ease. Housed in a durable, updated casing and featuring integrated 4 mm safety sockets for secure electrical connections, the polarimeter is well suited to the demands of the teaching laboratory. Supplied complete with full instructions; requires power via 4 mm sockets from a low-voltage DC power supply (up to 10 V, not included).
