Optical gratings, 3-in-1
This set consists of three original gratings from Paton Hawksley with 100, 300 and 600 lines per mm respectively. The gratings are mounted between plane-parallel glass plates in a cardboard frame of 90 x 30 mm. The middle grating corresponds to 7500 lines per inch, which gives an accurate line count of 295.28 lines per mm. Each grating has an area of 9 x 16 mm.
Use of the product
In physics teaching, optical gratings are used to investigate diffraction and interference, which show the wave nature of light. With the three different line densities, students can compare the resolution of spectra and perform measurements of wavelengths from different light sources. The gratings are well suited for spectroscopy and to create clear observations that connect theory and practice in optics teaching.
