Product Details
Dialysis tube, 25 mm wide, Ø16 mm
The dialysis tubing is a semipermeable membrane tubing intended for osmosis and diffusion experiments. The tubing is supplied as a 5 meter roll and is 25 mm wide in flat form, while it achieves an internal diameter of approximately 16 mm when filled with liquid.
Description
The dialysis tubing has a MWCO value of 14,000 Da, making it suitable for studies where smaller molecules must be able to pass through the membrane, while larger ones must be retained. The material becomes flexible when wetted and can be opened manually so that it can be filled and closed by tying both ends. The tubing is stored dry at room temperature.
In osmosis experiments with a high concentration of non-diffusible substances inside the tube, it should not be left standing for a long time, as expansion can increase the size of the pores and thus change the diffusion properties.
Use of the product:
The dialysis tubing is used especially in biology and chemistry classes, where it gives students a practical understanding of semipermeable membranes, osmosis and diffusion. It is ideal for experiments where water transport in and out of the tubing is investigated at different concentrations of sugar and salt solutions. In high school, students can work with the size of molecules in relation to MWCO and analyze which substances can diffuse.
In laboratories outside of teaching, the dialysis tubing can be used in demonstration setups for molecular separation or smaller experimental setups in biotechnology.
