Gyroscope on foot

Gyroscope for displaying inertial moment and torque.

The gyroscope is mounted on the foot via a bracket and ‘pulled up’ with a string. You can now observe how the gyroscope moves in relation to its 3 free axes. In addition to a suspension bracket and two feet – one of which has rocking chair rails, the gyroscope is supplied with a winding string and various weights. The gyro is made of brass, while the surrounding ring is made of metal and plastic. The feet and bracket are made of hard plastic.

The end of the winding cord is inserted into the hole in the central rod of the gyroscope, after which the gyro is turned so that the cord is wound around the rod. Now hold the outer ring of the gyroscope with one hand while pulling the cord quickly to make the gyro rotate.

The base measures 9 x 9 cm, while the entire gyroscope is 17 cm high.

Use of the product

In physics education, the gyroscope serves as a practical introduction to rotation, momentum, and stability. It is included in experiments where students explore the relationships between angular velocity and torque.
